I'm curious how others are showcasing their ability to use AI in the workplace, especially in marketing and communications.

What examples have you used to effectively articulate this to hiring managers?

Do they need to see specific results, or is it more about having a story ready to share during the interview process?

I'd love to hear how people in various industries are approaching this.

I list training certs on my LinkedIn, resume and offer examples of things I’ve built that have AI objects. It’s not a critical aspect of my position, but it’s a nice to have as I’m more diverse in areas beyond my role.

Most people in my role and at my level aren’t evolving.

We’ve been using the term “object” in implementation projects to represent aspects of the tool that are distinct modules, built-ins and/or capabilities.

IMO this depends what your role is. A lot of managers are receptive to AI conversations because it is a hot topic right now. But not everything needs an AI solution, and definitely not all solutions require GenAI (e.g., LLMs).

If the role requires it, they will expect stories about how you have use AI and what skills you have.

If the role doesn’t require AI, but there is an interest on your end to drive efforts in that area if possible, I would just mention it casually making emphasis on some key accomplishments in previous roles where you leveraged your AI/ML knowledge and skills.

However, don’t oversell to avoid shooting yourself on the foot with promises you can’t keep.

Utilizing ChatGPT, I developed a Python script that automates the creation of a weekly protein purification summary presentation. The presentation includes detailed images. By inputting data into Excel, naming 15 distinct images, and cropping them, the script generates a visually appealing PowerPoint presentation based on a customized template. This process, which I had never attempted before, demonstrates the capabilities of ChatGPT. The potential time savings are substantial.

In my opinion, ChatGPT will enhance my career advancement within management by enabling me to think at an expert level as a younger scientist. It provides instantaneous summaries of complex information, allowing me to pose insightful questions during meetings.
