Fave thing to do around town?
The king 👑

Hi Fishes,
I Will be Joining PWC AC B as SA2 on Sept 2,2022. Just want to know about Appraisal cycle. Is it Mid Year or Annual appraisal process. Also, will I be eligible for next appraisal cycle ? Tried asking the same Question to HR, but didn't get a proper response. She just mentioned as per company policy.

No, government doesn’t work that way… You can ask for increase in step but based on what I just saw you’re at a high step. I don’t see how you are at GS11 Step 1 at that pay. Wait, I see now. I didn’t account for locality pay.
The only way to go up in GS would be experience. Based on your YOE… You don’t qualify at a higher GS level.
Regardless, your pay maybe lower but you really need to factor in your benefits, WLB, etc. which likely puts you much higher than the 71k.
I highly doubt they will give you Step 10… You won’t receive a yearly schedule pay raise and you are a couple years from making the next level. They wouldn’t do that to you. Can you ask for a higher step? Yes. Will you get it? I don’t know. But you really need to stop thinking about money if you are going gov. You need to look at everything else. Before you ask for more money you need to determine if you can move making the salary they offered. Assess your expenses, etc. Don’t waste their time and your time thinking they will jump up significantly. They are not industry. Their benefits beat industry though. So if you’re not willing to accept at this pay level, it’s probably not the right move for you. If you need an additional $4k to make the move, they are more likely to meet you. Figure out what it is you need to move before asking though.
I also just exited to a state government job. 3.5 YOE. I’m not sure about the feds but the state had a tiny bit of wiggle room to bring me up a few pay grades. The team really wanted me and the director pushed hard for the pay bump. But I think at the end of the day they have a certain budget and can only do so much.
I image you can get a little more if you ask but they may not have the ability to offer 100k. That being said, the benefits are amazing and may make up for the difference. Especially if you’re thinking long term.
In any case, OP could ask for a pay grade increase but they may not be able to accommodate .. and not because they don’t want to.. just how the public sector works.
Maybe I’m biased. I went from a firm where we had 3 sick days per year.. so 3 weeks is amazing even if I never need it and was worth a slight pay cut

Also, you need to look at things like vacation, pension, etc.

Thanks everyone for your input.
I’m going to ask for a higher step. If I get it, great. If not, whatever.
30% pay cut - no way
It’s not actually a 30% pay cut… If you are comparing base to base then yes. But it’s a lot less when looking at true total compensation.
