I once worked with a coworker that micromanaged me a lot. It was strange because it would only happen when my direct manager was never around. I approached this situation two different ways.
1. I communicated with my direct manager and asked her if she asked my coworker to lead the team while she was away. If this was the case, then it was my understanding that per my managers request, I would follow in line with this individual. However, I would express my annoyance of that said individual to my manager.
2. I would approach my coworker and suggest that we should work together to lead the team/workload without the micromanagement.
Some people are naturally demanding without realizing they are being that way to others. This could come from prior leadership experience or even childhood behavior. Therefore, I would suggest being professionally direct with this individual and politely request that they stop micromanaging me.
