I'm looking for some ideas on keeping up morale. I've got a great team and I'd like to encourage them and also build their confidence (it's a young group). What are some ways I can empower them?

Although a pizza or any free lunch could be seen as a easy was out to hear" WE never get a pizza fir all the work we do" is definitely not good.
Authenticity is a buzz word that should be taken more seriously. Most everyone can spot B.S. or insincerity. Being recognized for ones work is critical yet seems to take a back seat to reprimand and punishments to motivate employees to tow the line while the ones doing good or even great work are largely ignored.
To feel underappreciated is not a condition that many tolerate for long in any relationship. Assuming your not the one to sign the paychecks ($ is always a good motivational tool I'm the workplace enviromment) try simply asking the team. If the coach doesn't know, he should and anyway of getting the answer to questions is to ask the people that already know the answer.
Learned that in grade school.

I hate to disagree with others, but people are tired of pizza and food covering up for lack of leadership ability. your job is to provide purpose, direction amd motivation. When you are all crushing it together than they can buy their own food. Empowering them means giving them trust to execute the job and maybe make a fewistakes alomg the way. When mistakes happen this is an opportunity to show who you are as a leader. Are you looking at the minutia of the error or considering a small error in the grand scheme of the organization? Chances are the mistakes dont matter much and what we call mistakes are actually our preferences. So eductate and never criticize. People want a sense of purpose especially young people. Let them know how their portion of contribution affect the organization as a whole. Be better than them, not by putting them down, but by being more disciplined, working harder, learning more. No one respects or is encouraged by a stagnant leader.

This is great feedback.
To add: recognition without accountability breeds entitlement. Don’t recognize without hitting milestones!

I suggest you speak to your Comms people about tips to improve comms and engagement in the team. Encouraging multi-directional comms, lifting recognition, and creating a link between org strategy and people’s contributions can go a long way.

I'm a big fan of funny memes in group chats. On going group chats about thing not related to work. And bonuses obviously 😁

Our annual reviews are approaching & one of my direct reports has been with us for almost six years w/ little growth. My reco was to let him go & find a stronger, hungrier & more motivated designer at the same level. However, my boss instead wants us to promote him in hopes that will spark some motivation. I am not behind this decision & have voiced my multitude of concerns in promoting an employee who doesn't deserve it. HR is behind the decision! Thoughts on promoting an undeserving report?

Is there a corporate way to bring up to senior leaders that an IC is causing issues across multiple teams because they are demanding and also doesn’t collaborate well? I had a great review and a 5.5% raise and a great bonus at my company. But I also got a new Director and a peer manager of mine left the company, so I will be absorbing her team. In addition, my director said I will be receiving 'deep delegation' from them. I don't mind more work, but deep delegation is a new term I've never heard. What does that mean lol?

Hi everyone!

After years of hard work, I just got my first position in a leadership role! Yay! I’ll be leading a team of 12.
I wanted to know if you had any tips for me, things you wish you knew before, or things previous leaders did for/to you that you found admirable or stayed with you. I want to make sure I’m there for them and want to be a leader they will remember positively.

Thank you so much!!
