In case you are worried about the economy/ being laid off here are my steps to limit worry about being laid off.
1) I’m very good at my job
2) I have 6 months of expenses saved
3) I never stop attending networking events / keep a contact list of 45 recruiters ready in case of unexpectedly lay off.

Here’s my check list: we currently have record corporate profits, government budget surpluses, record high wages, 3.5% unemployment, and an economy so damn robust that the government has to artificially slow money flow with interest rates.

There are no layoffs in sight

Thanks! Very cool!

Okay

Number 1 is enough

But where are layoffs happening. Not sure why we are spreading rumours?? My team is all sold out.

In tech probably, but not here.

Thanks everyone!

Any input is greatly appreciated, thank you!

So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

Hi fishes,
Has coforge fired any employees in 2022?

Recently freed from the consulting game (starting end of next week) with a great severance and new energy around RE. Closed our first REPE fund last year as well as a sizeable personal portfolio in a large midwestern city, all on the side.
If you’re accredited and interested in putting some $ to work in this super low yield environment, ping me! Ramping up the next fund soon.

How do you handle people’s kids showing up on video meetings? Screaming, kicking, hamming it up, (wasting time.) Everyone else is coo-ing…I’m not a kids person. Heard a technique which is to drop off the call bc you “assume the call is over” (which seems like a great way to get fired especially if it’s a way higher up’s kids - plus it feels rather passive aggressive.) Thoughts?

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Hi, received an offer from another Big4 in Amsterdam (currently working in Eastern Europe), but relocating, I’m concerned about potential layoffs in the coming period being the last to join the team.

The severance package at Meta for laid off employees almost makes it nice to be laid off depending on what your personal situation is….. personally wouldn’t mind getting 4+ months of full pay to reset and think about what’s next 😬

Hey All! I was recently laid off in November as part of a company mass layoff. I'm really taking this opportunity to shoot for a Director level position in Marketing. (I've been a marketing professional for over 10 years). Any tips on how to break into this type of role?

I just accepted an offer in writing. The new job will start the background check next which I’ve been told it may take a while to complete. My start date at the new job isn’t until 2023 so there is some time for me to turn in my notice. I don’t anticipate any hiccups in the background check but is it wise to wait until the background check is complete before turning in my notice?
