I did the same thing for my 40th over Thanksgiving. My husband was completely supportive and I had a wonderful time. Taking care of ourselves is super important and makes us better parents. GO!
Please go. You are doing your son a favour: a more relaxed mum, who takes care of herself too. Don't let anyone make you feel guilty for that. Have fun!!
Go. Go. Go. Go. It’s good for you, it’s good for your son, it’s good for your family.
I have three kids, and haven't taken as many of those trips as I should have. But every time I do I feel reinvigorated, my kids are more bonded with their dad, and we're all a happier family unit when I get back. It's as good for them as it is for me.
Kids are so resilient and this is a huge opportunity for your husband to bond with your son. You can FaceTime everyday. Go and have an amazing time!!
Remember that even when kids have separation anxiety they still don’t have a great sense of the passage of time at that age. It’s not like he’ll spend a week being upset that you’re gone - more likely he’ll have a tough time the day you leave and then be fine after that (while getting some good practice being without you). Honestly the time apart will probably be harder on you than on him! Do it!
GOOOOOOO It won’t traumatize him. He may remember it, but likely not at that age: My first biz trip away from my child, which was 2-3 days around the same age, I made a little “calendar” of what was happening on the days I was gone so she knew when grandma was coming, etc. And plan something special for the day you return.
the trauma angle? I don’t want to worry so much that it ruins my trip. And obviously don’t want to hurt my child.
Your son will be fine! It’s hard to let go but so worth it.
