Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

I advise my candidates that when asked “what’s your salary expectations?” To say: “I expect to receive your highest offer because …”. It has worked every single time. Good luck!
I just want to say that this is super insightful! I never once thought of answering this question with anything other than a definitive dollar amount. This not only takes the pressure off of doing that, but throws the ball back to their court. Thanks for sharing this!
I would aim for 50-70 percentile as long as it isn’t super different from the range in your area
I would say aim higher always. You’ve got 18 years of energy industry experience, and even if the title says “entry level,” your insight and context are worth more than the floor. I’d go in with a thoughtful range in the 60th–75th percentile, but be ready to explain why: industry expertise, upskilling, and long-term value. Have you thought of what to say yet?
Somewhat. I plan to give a range in the 50-75 percentile because of the skills I can bring to the position, just wasn’t sure if I’d be pricing myself out of a potential job.
The phone interview is with a recruiter and I believe they will only be screening candidates prior to invitation for N interview.
