The professional and respectable move is to sit down with your direct supervisor and tell them in person. You send the official resignation letter after you leave the meeting.

No. It’s been a few years in a toxic work environment thank you. I don’t owe a stranger an explanation. I’m happy 😊

Seriously? The way companies treat employees and people talk about the "professional" "respectful" way? I'd send a postcard from Cabo saying "I'm out dude, Peace. Live long and prosper"
I didn't renew my annual contract, sent four months late. When they asked me to send it in, by email, I, by email, said I wasn't intending to return. This was three months after the last contract ended with no guarantee (academia).
Two things:
- don't burn bridges if you may want to cross them again
- the level of respect earned is a good way to decide on the level of respect given
leave a handwritten note, and wooppie cushion, on their chair
If in person is not possible, a resignation letter via email works or that in conjunction with a call. Whenever I have had my position eliminated or whatever they don't give 2 weeks notice to employees, and I have been eliminated via email. Try to have someone to be a reference for you there preferably via letter before you quit. Keep the ball in your court just like they do.
I would send an email do.it in writing so there is a paper trail.
It depends upon whether or not you want a reference. Do you really want to burn that bridge?
A resignation is considered the most professional way. When the company requests a two-week notice, ask them when they last gave two weeks to people they laid off, discharged, or fired.

If possible, a quick call or video chat with your manager is the most respectful way—it shows professionalism and gives space for a proper handoff. You can follow up right after with a short, polite resignation email confirming your final date. Keep it simple and positive—it leaves the best impression for future references.

It depends on whether or not you want a recommendation from anyone in the company in the future. If you think you might need a recommendation, the best option is to speak to your direct manager, give 2 weeks notice, then send your written resignation.
Two weeks notice. Don’t show up for two weeks and then they will notice.
At-Will says it all. So what are we all discussing?!?! 😀 SMDH
Just send the resignation letter
How much notice will they hive you if they were about to fire you?
Let them figure it out and move forward gracefully
I assume you are joking
Unless you foresee your manager making things very difficult, I recommend having a call, then follow up with an email ( and include your HR representative). Being petty and vindictive could hurt you in the long run. You don't want to damage your reputation, you never know what will happen in the future,
You really have to ask that question???? Call your manager like an adult.
I did ty 😂🙂↔️
I normally give 2 weeks notice. You didn't explain the reason for leaving. I don't like to have a bad reputation in my field of work. It doesn't pay to burn bridges. Someone always knows Someone who knows you, and how you left.
Hire me first, then quit. I hadn't worked in two years after my IT Director position went away for a family owned mid-size business that I helped go to the cloud. Im retired from the military so I'm fine with changing industries, just. Want to get back to work!!
My son found a better job and needed to submit his resignation. My advice was to craft a very short resignation letter with little more than a date for the last day. No reason need be given. The letter should be delivered in person with the direct supervisor. Ask the supervisor if they would like an electronic copy to send to HR. If the supervisor asks why, say nothing more than personal reasons. You can't fix the cultural problems with one resignation.
You need to be professional and respectful. Stop with the email and phone calls. Write a letter giving two weeks notice. Ask to meet with your HR department or manager, if you have one. It's the best professional way to do it!

The motto for 2025 should be (I guess from reading this) always be the "professional" you'd never see your employer be. HAHAHA right.
