I say go for it - it sounds like you are making a well thought out choice and you never know what is on the other side. Sometimes it is a bigger risk to stay in a nowhere job, than to take that first step forward. I am rooting for you!
Thank you for the encouragement!
I also quit my job with nothing lined up! It’s amazing. I’m in Mexico City freelancing for a month. 😍 I was also terrified but I know it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.
Good luck! You’ll be fine!
I left my job in early October - am currently job searching and also trying to find consulting work. I am so glad I left. I had become really depressed, repetitive in my thought patterns (in an unhealthful way), and quite grumpy. It had become so hard for me to put things in perspective. I do feel very very grateful that I am able to not be working right now. I certainly can’t be out of the workforce indefinitely but I do not regret my decision - even though the economy is not great.
Good luck!

Congratulations! Excellent decision.
If you want to jump into the architecture world, “Branded Environments” has been booming, and would basically utilize your graphic design skills into implementing company’s logos and branding into their physical office spaces! Pretty 9-5 corporate job.

I actually have an interview with a architecture firm that designs branded interiors for banks, so this is spot on!
You will find your destiny soon in the most unexpected place .
Oh myyyy the relief you must feel. Trust me you will find a better job in no time. I did exactly what you did 3 times. I am not difficult to work with but I am very patient and let people abuse and take advantage of me. Now I understand that if your under appreciated get the heck out! Because you are losing two things you won’t get back time at this crappy company and you are wasting better opportunities that could’ve pushed you to success. And being scared is REALLLLY good it might push you to open your own firm be the boss heck ya why not. I say smart move from your end and good luck to you, don’t listen to people saying we are going thru hell with the economy. If there is anything I’ve learnt from the past years even during Covid is that you can do anything you put your kind to it, and when combined with feeling scared then you are invincible. Cheers to a better you!!

Congrats! Life is to short to live in fear of change! Your confidence will skyrocket when you feel the weight lifted off your shoulders from a toxic workplace. Enjoy the holidays with your family and friends. You got this 💪
I did it in August 2020! The company I was working for had that toxic hustle culture and I have never been so miserable at a job. It killed my motivation and performance. I was also starting my MBA program and there was no way I was going to balance it all. Best decision I’ve ever made. I did have enough savings to last several months. It allowed me to decompress and focus on job hunting, plus time to work on my side hustle. Luckily, a company recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn within a month of me quitting and I was fully employed again within 2 months. Still with that company today! Best of luck to you!

This is different you quit with a solid plan in place of your next steps
A lot of companies are on hiring freezes due to economy. Set some work/life balances. It does not sound like you have any. You can be highly productive 8-5 and still have boundaries.
I would not quit and search for a job. You seemed concerned to explain to a new employer if you got fired but quitting brings up similar conversations. 5-6 months won’t last long and why put yourself in financial stress when it’s not needed?
Set some work / life boundaries. Work hard when your at work and search for next opportunity.
Economists from Columbia University and the Federal Reserve banks of New York and Chicago examined the job-seeking activities of 2,900 people ages 18 to 64 (excluding the self-employed), and found that employed people get all the breaks. They were more likely to receive an unsolicited contact from a potential employer or a referral from a contact. Their response rate from employers was four times that of unemployed applicants. They got more than twice the interviews and three times as many offers per application.
For those of us that live debt free it’s not that hard to bail on a job. For those that finance everything as a show of status. This would be a dream they’ll never achieve. The cash burn rate vs savings is just too high. They’d have to save for like 10 years to take 1 year off. I made this switch about 5 years ago. I live on what I make. I finance nothing. I own my cars and house. It’s harder than you’d think. I think of it as buying my freedom. In 2021 I spent my maximum visa time in Colombia 🇨🇴
Op having read some of your comments, go for it. I have done it twice and each time I hd a 20%pay increase. I have also gone through some mental health issues recently and a job isn’t worth that. Live your life today
Op- did you resign?

Yes. Last day is Friday! I have an interview tomorrow too.
I just feel like I’m not doing what I love. I’m just existing in this school. This school doesn’t care about the athletics like I do, they don’t even have an athletic director.. I’m an All American volleyball player and State championship coach working in a low tier sports program a school that barely even wants sports.. I really need motivation, more pay, better mental health, all around change to stay in this.. but honestly I’d rather go somewhere I’m actually appreciated.
Start applying!! You deserve to kick ass with a team that cares and a school that will support you in making a difference! There is no time to go after what you love like now :) priority #1!!!!
I did the same. Got offered multiple jobs within 2 weeks. Made more money. Do it! It’s an employee’s market right now.
Not sure if it’s still an employee’s market. May depend on the industry.
Go for it!
Sailing in the same boat! Anxious and happy.
Wishing you the best on your new journey
If you have at least 6 months of bills saved up, and some irons in the fire for freelance employment, I say go for it. But if not, this recession is just starting to hit major corps and the trickle down will definitely hit mid-level Corps in Q1 and Q2. I can’t think of a worse time to quit TBH. People are pushing off their retirement because mutual funds and bonds are tanking so I think everyone is safe staying where they are if they don’t have a rock solid support and game plan lined up.
Been in this position and found a job better aligned for me about 3 months later. You’ll be totally fine! It’s scary now but watch how great life can be in 3-4 months if you put in the work! :) good luck!
