McKinsey & Company Hi everyone. Hope all is well.
Recently took the McKinsey & Company game (not sure if I have an interview yet but preparing nonetheless). It’s an entry level business analyst position and an entry level digital position and was wondering if anyone wanted to case prep with me. I’m willing to work on anyones time zone. (I’m located in Sydney, Australia).

A response to everyone who says honesty is the best policy and that ‘any good supervisor will understand,’ No. Knowledge is power; keep it.
3 reasons off the top:
-By willfully taking company time to interview, you are technically stealing. Can be cause, if you get on someone’s bad side
- By telling a manager, who has a duty to protect the company, you may be the first to be shut outside when it’s good for the company, not when it’s good for you
- It WILL affect potential promotions if word gets out you’re not in it for the long haul.
Just...avoid.
Someone on my team expressed that they were interviewing recently. If we need to cut staff, you can guess who’s at the top of the list. Keep it to yourself.

If you have a flexible environment, just come in early or leave late if possible and don't say anything about why unless prompted. If it has to be in the middle of the day, work from home. Otherwise, see above excuses.
Or take interviews after work. Tell them you’re busy and can’t make daytime interviews.
Recurring weekly doc appointment (physical therapy, mental therapy, no one needs details) and schedule all interviews at that time. Also easy to remember and not get caught lying. If I don’t have any interviews I just have some time to chill.
If you are a woman you can make it seem like you’re pregnant
Dentist, car appointment, someone coming to fix the house, some type of therapy, something with the family, kid has a dr appt or school appt, need to get an MRI or medical test and the results, car broke down
It’s your business and your life you have the right to be vague, no one needs to know every detail about your life. If they follow up and ask with you then I suppose you can make an excuse.
I’m traveling across the country for an interview next Monday. I just sent my team a note that I’d be OOO or otherwise working remotely. Reachable if needed but trying to take the day.
They don’t need to know why I’m out.
And, if they ask, I’ll tell them I’m planning to enjoy a long Mother’s Day weekend with family. Long weekends around holidays are always a good excuse.
