What will the project dynamics be on a project staffed with 3mdps, a PL, and myself, a summer UG intern? Just got staffed and will be hearing more on Monday from the team, but it came across as an interesting staffing composition.
Have the feeling I'll be making quite a few slides as the only junior. Anyone staffed on a similar case composition?

Absolutely, I'm doing that right now. I'm making less money than I could be at another job just because my current gig is fully remote, and that's worth its weight in gold to me. There are some things that are more important than money at a certain point.
I'm willing to do that if I can maintain a decent standard of living and have more time to work on that novel I'm hoping to publish soon.
Yes took a 6 figure pay cut for better quality of life and zero regrets.
Absolutely I did and zero regrets!!
Same, I took a slight pay cut and have zero regrets. I’m past the 6 mos mark now and wish I had done this sooner. I actually have a hobby now! Just be mindful that your lifestyle may look a little different and if you’re ok with that, DO IT!!!!
Remote is gold and so rare now. I worked out of Mexico City and had an amazing time. I value flexibility over anything.
Absolutely!!! Gave up management role for individual contributor role and $10k less salary (same bonus multiplier) for last 5 years working. BEST DECISION EVER!
Yes, tons of people do, that’s why there is a discussion before you get hired. Not everyone strives for the same thing
Yep! For me, it's a reduced schedule. Comp was decreased by the same percentage, which has been substantial over the years, but I wouldn't have wanted to do motherhood any other way. My life is the time spent outside of work. Time with my kids. Volunteering at their school and coaching their sports. Work (while I do enjoy parts of it) is how I support my family.
I’m conflicted on this now. I received 2 job offers 1 is fully remote and other is 3 days in office (good name on resume though). Maybe 10k less for the remote.
Recruiters are telling me I’m stupid if I do not take the big name. But all I think of is wanting flexibility???
In January 2026, I was offered from BDO position of Tax Managing Director w/ base salary $180k, 10% YE bonus, ESOP benefits, and Hybrid 3 days in office during busy season.
I also received a Senior Tax Manager position in another state, 100% remote, $140k + 10% YE bonus.
I live on 200 acres and the commute to BDO office is 2.5 hrs/round trip. I ended up taking the 100% remote position and extremely happy. It was a tough decision, as at my last job as Controller for 5 years, I was making $190k base plus total $35k bonus annually before I was laid-off in September 2025 due to new ownership and out-sourced my job. FYI, before the Controller position, I worked at EY for 3 years first in Audit then Tax and eventually became a partner with in my father's CPA firm. I have 20 years under my belt as a CPA, and taking a pay cut is worth it too me. I still work 60 hour weeks during busy season, but it's not having to commute.
Depends where one is in their career path IMO. Those early in career, I'm taking the big name opportunity and leveraging that down the line. Also, if I have no family yet, I'm grinding to build my experience and knowledge, etc and then pivot to something else down the line. On other hand, if I have family and kids, perhaps 10 years away from retirement, I'm taking the remote role, flexibility. Different priorities in life given where I'm at on my timeline.
