You can call the recruiting manager and ask if she’s asking because she suspects partners that you’d be meeting with will be working from home. If that’s the case it might make sense not to burden them with having to come into the office. But if she’s asking just for your benefit, I would go in person. It shows you’re excited to move there.
Absolutely - risks are hugely overblown to you personally but there are others who take them more seriously than they should; if they will be deciding on your job, you might as well pay due deference.
Everyone is going to get it. Presumably you are relatively young and health. I’d go, but probably avoid visiting my grandma right afterwards.
The impression you make in person cannot be replaced by video conference. If this is a job you genuinely want then I would take the risk and interview in person. I’d wear a mask if you have an N95 or N99. And like others have said, sanitize as you go. I’d wipe down the entire seat area with wet wipes. I personally don’t feel like this is the time to be sheepish about being a germaphobe in public.
Just go. The world doesnt quit spinning. More people die every year from the flu.
I also live here and would echo loudly that that does not seem likely.
Some people are working from home. Everyone is washing their hands more. People apologize whenever they sneeze or cough and follow very quickly with “I swear it’s not the virus.” Otherwise it’s any other March in Seattle, albeit somewhat sunnier than usual.
So it’s an in-house position. The hiring manger reached out directly and said the company had optional work from home. I asked if people would be in for the interview and they said yes but it’s up to me.
Go
I had a screener interview with a tech company this week and they said they’re only doing video interviews from now on because of the virus.
Interesting this is a fairly large tech company. But the flight and hotel are already booked so maybe they are going forward with only planned travel.
The company cancelled all travel and instituted WFH so my interview is now remote.
Seattle area has been hard hit and are asking people to work from home.
