I'm surprised to hear about how few firms actually pay market salary across all of their offices. Anyone know where the cut-off is roughly on Vault or AmLaw for firms that pay market versus those that don't? Random example, but heard that K&L Gates doesn't pay market in all offices (if any), which came as a surprise to me.

It is pretty safe to assume that firms with multiple offices in secondary markets (e.g. Denver, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Charlotte, etc.) you can assume they likely don't pay market to those associates.

like

This.

I've been at similarly-ranked (but lower in AmLaw100) firms. 1 paid abive-market, 1 paid way below.

Has less do to with ranking, and more to do with firm profitability.

The new trend is firms paying market everywhere from years 1-3 then drastically lowering comp.

like

Yep, this is what Dentons does

like

What do you mean by “market”? Market pay is different in each, well, market, so most firms pay less in offices outside of the HCOL markets like NYC and SFO but the comp might be more in line with the market the office is in.

like

Yup! Market salary and bonuses. Part of the reason I went to Chicago instead of NYC. Goes a lot further here. I’m not a TX person but we pay the same for those offices too.

funny

Why do we care that firms with offices in LCOL cities aren’t paying the same there as they do in NYC and SF? You’re still making more there when you do cost of living analysis not to mention taxes

Foley pays “market” in every city, including smaller ones.

Hello, folks! I wonder if you have any advice/info for a person who is looking for an "investment associate" role in Dubai. I have a financial audit background (4 years Big-4), 1,5 year in deal advisory (half year financial due diligence department, 1 year valuation department). I have experience in TMT, retail, Energy and Utility and other industries. Currently I'm living in Eastern Europe.
What is considered to be normal in relation to WBL, compensations in Dubai for such role or similar?

Looking for APICS CSCP study material. Anybody looking to part or share - let's work out a price.

I feel like I'm stuck in limbo.

Not enough experience to become a Senior designer, but too much to be a junior.

And there hardly any intermediate roles out there.

Litigators—how many different cases are you on?

Been feeling spread too thin lately but I don’t know whats typical. Curious what others do. And would you mind sharing whether you’re a junior, midlevel, partner, etc??

I realize sheer number of cases doesn’t tell the whole story… obviously you can be buried on one massive case. I’m finding it hard to jump back and forth between everything I have going on right now, though, but I don’t know if the answer is to just deal with it.

How many matters is typical for one associate to handle (BL lit)? I know it is group-specific, but just trying to get a general idea. I just finished a big jury trial with a senior partner (SP). There were co-parties w/separate counsel. SP mentally checked out, to the point that co-counsel was asking what SP was doing/if SP was okay. I ended up handling most everything. SP did a few parts but went rogue and did things that were offensive/risky/bad for client. It became clear that SP is not performing like SP used to and may be a liability. Do I tell someone at my firm? Don’t want to offend SP or cause drama, but I’m concerned.

I know that some other associates at my level are approximately 30% behind other associates in hours on a month to month basis. Yet all of these associates say they are “at capacity”, and myself and another associate still end up being assigned work instead of them. How do we handle this? For reference, all associates are around the firms minimum requirement, it’s just that a few of us are 30+% over and it is leading to burnout.
