Don’t. B4 is worth it but PwC AWM (fed or salt) is as brutal as it can get.
See other groups as options.
Thanks. I wish I could consider other groups, but I haven’t had any luck with other applications despite having 3 YOE and my CPA. I get that it’s all at a local firm, but I’ve been surprised by the lack of interest even with the intent to go in as a staff.
Everyone’s telling you to run because AWM is brutal—and they’re not wrong. But I still think you should take the opportunity. It opens doors you won’t find anywhere else. Yes, you’ll have to work hard for 2–3 years, but it’s worth it.
I, too started at a small firm before moving into Big 4 asset management, and while the past three years have been tough, that decision completely changed my life. My finances, my confidence, and even my leadership skills—things that weren’t valued at a small firm—all grew tremendously.
It’s not easy, but if you want opportunities, this is the path to get them. Don’t let other people’s warnings hold you back—try it for yourself. I once delayed taking the CPA exam because everyone said it was too hard. When I finally tried, I passed all four parts on my first attempt.
Don’t let fear or other people’s opinions stop you. Good luck!
If you have no other options, go ahead but start actively looking to leverage your PwC job to get somewhere else before Jan 1. AWM will be a brutal busy season that never ends. Firms will be hiring for Jan. Try to get to industry. If anyone asks why you are leaving so soon tell them you found out how bad AWM busy season is and they will understand as everyone knows this.
Pro
Agreed with this, but it seems like OP is starting next year at PwC so they wouldn’t be able to use the job to look elsewhere. AWM is year round busy season and is just a K1/return factory. Nothing to study beforehand, you’ll learn on the job. Keep looking for other jobs if you can
Do your best and learn as much as possible. AWM has the best exit opportunities.
I have been in AWM for years and I like it. Yes hours are brutal but your exit opportunities are great. Also don’t forget it also depends on the teams. Each team has different dynamics
Tax or audit?
If you dont want to stick there do your time and transfer internally to a better group if you can. Just get in
