I’m taking a short term disability leave after childbirth, nonFMLA and expect to recover soon. My manager just told me during the leave that they’re hiring for my role to replace me. Shocked since manager is kind and I’m using this earned eligible benefit while the team is planning to separate me. No performance issue in the past. Any advice on my best approach for this situation?

I don’t know of any good employment lawyers in GA, but you could probably find someone with good reviews on google or use your state bar’s referral service.

Maybe poor choice of words? They just have to hold a role that is “similar and equal” to your current role for when you return. Also since you are not using FMLA the requirements are slightly different per state

Correct. STD has no job protection. It’s shitty to fire someone, but it’s legal.

Did you do the NIPT? I just had my first prenatal appt and they scheduled me for the NIPT at 10 weeks. I’m a little nervous and anxious. Did anyone get it and got a false positive? Do you not recommend it? I wish I could ask family but we’re not telling anyone until the 12 weeks mark.

Has anyone been successful in negotiating the schedule on a global pregnancy bill? My provider won't bill by visit and split the global cost into four payments all due by the 28th week. I don't understand how that's legal since it is so off the calendar of services and crosses calendar years (and insurance coverage), where most costs are incurred at the end of pregnancy with increased visit frequency and delivery.

Any recommendations (or watch outs) for au pair agencies? CT/NY area if it matters. TIA!

Misled on Maternity Leave Policy. I found out I only get 4 weeks pay for maternity leave (STD +“sick days”). I will take 12 weeks but wont get paid for 8 weeks. I work for a US, west coast based company in the tech/VC industry. Their website claims to offer “paid parental leave and other progressive benefits for parents”. I didn’t find out until after I was hired their pay was only 8 weeks but since I have been at the company less than 12 months, I don’t qualify for their policy. Is this unfair?
