I’ve been to agencies where you’ll meet with creatives (of course) and then representatives of other departments. I find it to be a good indicator of an agency trying to explore if candidates fit as a whole rather than just seeing if they’re capable of doing a particular job.
I love this. We hire in a vacuum and it shows when the team meets and is incompatible. Or when the new AD thinks he’s too good to talk to the PM as an equal.
Normal. We have the team member meet with people they would work with as part of the interview. Having talent is not enough, integration with the team is a big piece of the work day! Knowing how someone will take feedback and the level of support they need is important. We tend to have interviewees do a quick sample project to see how they react and manage to the workflow we normally leverage.
Agreed, CW. An important part of hiring someone is making sure they fit well with everyone else on the team.
We do this all the time. It’s important to know if you’ll mesh with the whole team.
Also, this person works based on capabilities of the talent that is hired. I think it’s normal to check if you can speak well, present an idea internally, can make comps and stuff. I don’t think it’s something weird.
I’m not talking about a situation where I get interviewed by the entire team or representatives from each department.
No.... this was an interview lead and conducted by just the PM.
Could be a situation where all other lead designers were busy? I’ve had weird scenarios where my client has paid for an additional fte and I ended up being the hiring manager due to having a small jr creative team at the time / knowing best what / who we needed on the team due to the number of years I worked on the account. You could always ask HR about it if you haven’t already? Certainly weird if they were the only person that interviewed you!

1. Teamfit
2. Freelance
3. if they're more like a product manager and your being hired to work on the product.
4. Same as 3 but they run the brand not the product.
they must really trust the PM instead of the recruiter to be a filter to move to the next step.
