I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

OD - Non equities top out at 325, regardless of market.
Thanks!
Cont’d: Switching now would be a huge pay cut, so I’m inclined to wait until I get pushed out if it would not be a significant disadvantage to moving over as a non-equity shareholder later. Essentially, I’m trying to determine if Littler/Ogletree would be less likely to take me as a non-equity shareholder as a 12th year without a book than as a 9th year with no book.
OP are you getting offers to Littler/Ogletree to cross over as an NEP? In a similar boat and also curious.
I’ve had some initial discussions with one of Littler/Ogletree about a NEP position, but I haven’t moved forward beyond that and am deciding whether to pursue it further. I previously had a similar discussion with one of Jackson Lewis/Fisher Phillips, but I decided not to move forward with that. Happy to discuss further by DM.
