Recommendations on an exceptional career coach who can help my husband? He works with his brother at a startup his brother founded (my husband is in-house counsel) but often finds himself belittled by his brother, cut out of conference calls and emails and generally feeling like he has no skills. He's an ivy league graduate and went to a great law school but for many reasons cannot leave this job right now. Looking for someone to help w/his confidence level and ways to approach his brother. TIA!

I know it’s not what you want to hear, but you cannot career coach into convincing a bad manager into treating you better. Your husbands brother sounds awful to work for. He needs a new job, not a better way to approach someone who belittles him.

A career coach isn’t the best fit for this. It sounds more like he would benefit from therapy.

He needs to get his equity papered ASAP. Like yesterday. If the company is sold and he has no equity, he doesn't get paid out. Really. Your husband needs to insist on getting his *fully vested* equity papered ASAP.

Insist.

Really.

Coach? Therapist? Forget those! Husband needs a new job. Brother can find someone else to kick around.

No recommendations, but working with family is really tough. As lawyers we are generally risk adverse that many business people view as “second guessing” them and then throw in the family dynamic then either or both parties get way too emotional about it. It may not be possible, but if they can put a separate layer of reporting between them than it will probably work out better.

Yes. to all of this. my brother in law is very take charge, doesn't like to read long emails, and thinks my husband "thinks too much" and doesn't do enough. my husband sees it as protecting his brother and the business.

Been with my GF since college and we recently hit the 4 year mark. 1-2 years into our relationship I found out she had instances of micro-cheating (flirting with guys, talking to ex’s etc - but nothing physical) and we addressed it. To her credit and my knowledge, she’s been apologetic and great at respecting boundaries since, but I still feel the pain from her actions years ago (and have talked to her about it). Feeling lost about whether to just leave or to try and work things out

How do i find out if I will be happier divorced or more unhappily staying married. 2 kids; 2 & 4 YO. They don’t hear the arguments after bed time and don’t understand the bruises yet but I know it’s just a matter of time. It would be so much harder not seeing my kids everyday than living with the pain, loneliness and lost friendships. But I’m tired. And so sad. Lost. So alone. Anyone here ever been scared by some major differences in materialism with your partner? I’ve been considered “boujee” by some friends but my girlfriend of just over a year is on a whole other level. Lately because of many of her friends getting engaged / married, rings have been mentioned and she’s said pretty much she wouldnt be happy with under 25k.

I come from a very middle class upbringing, and so does she, although she’s influenced by friends dating professional athletes and stuff

Asking for a friend - anyone staying in a marriage just for the kid(s)?

It's not like the marriage is terrible or unhealthy, but they would take an out if not for having had the kids.
