I know it’s not what you want to hear, but you cannot career coach into convincing a bad manager into treating you better. Your husbands brother sounds awful to work for. He needs a new job, not a better way to approach someone who belittles him.
A career coach isn’t the best fit for this. It sounds more like he would benefit from therapy.

He needs to get his equity papered ASAP. Like yesterday. If the company is sold and he has no equity, he doesn't get paid out. Really. Your husband needs to insist on getting his *fully vested* equity papered ASAP.
Insist.
Really.
Coach? Therapist? Forget those! Husband needs a new job. Brother can find someone else to kick around.
No recommendations, but working with family is really tough. As lawyers we are generally risk adverse that many business people view as “second guessing” them and then throw in the family dynamic then either or both parties get way too emotional about it. It may not be possible, but if they can put a separate layer of reporting between them than it will probably work out better.
Yes. to all of this. my brother in law is very take charge, doesn't like to read long emails, and thinks my husband "thinks too much" and doesn't do enough. my husband sees it as protecting his brother and the business.
