International vs. PCS internal and Exit Opportunities. — I’m a S2 in ATL working in PCS and in international/crossborder for private clients. I need some guidance determining whether I would be better off staying in PCS or declaring a specialty in int’l/crossborder work. I don’t see myself in B4 forever, and it seems the int’l work would limit exit opps in the future. However, PCS exit opps aren’t appealing to me either: family office or wealth management. — any help or insight is appreciated.

Further, I know most exit opps exist in corporate by way of ASC 740. I have a few provisions under my belt, but the idea of doing provisions in a corporate structure is not appealing to me.

Commenting because this is me minus the international experience. I have some salt but not as of recent. Help us pls.

Read the latest tax proposal and you will realize international tax is where almost all the changes are. If you want to eventually go in house and work for a multinational, international tax is the way to go since it touches all areas of tax.

International definitely doesn’t limit exit opps and the industry jobs are generally better too. Went to industry and I’ve never touched provision other than updating a provision memo for a transaction I worked on. I do deals and planning only. You are right that most companies will want some provision experience and have you do some but the international side of that is much more palatable. As SM1 said, look at tax reform, international is a huge field

I've become really jaded about consulting. I find all so often you need to tell the client what they want to hear to keep their business and I feel like so much of the what I recommend doesn't actually get implemented. I'm looking to make a career switch so I can both create and execute on my strategies. A product management path seems very promising for this.

Does anyone who switched from consulting to product management have any recommendations of h helpful PM books, courses, or programs?

Do all firms share utilization reports for all staff with everyone? I feel like it’s awful for our company culture to share everyone’s stats office-wide. Just breeds anger and bad vibes all around.

likehelpful

Am I understanding utilization rate correctly? It’s chargeable time over total time? Charged 40 hours and had 10 hours non-charge so my utilization is 80%? If so, wouldn’t it benefit me to understate non-charge hours so my utilization is higher since they only really care about chargeable time anyways? Charge 40 hours still but only put 5 hours non-charge for utilization to be 89% instead of 80%? Or am I misunderstanding how utilization works?
