Any one familiar with comp for a Portfolio Associate roll at PIMCO on their mortgage backed securities team? I’m looking at an offer and want make sure I’m in line with the average comp for the company and industry. Only 4 months of experience and offer is 98k w/ 10-20% bonus plus 15k relo/ sign on. Looking at Glassdoor, bonuses seem higher than quoted by the hiring manager. (No written offer yet they say they’re still working on it)

Worked at Deloitte before coming to Deloitte’s EFA practice. Me being totally honest with you… regret making the move from JPM to Deloitte. You work a ton more hours, there’s minimal financial analysis/ planning aspect. The hard work you do typically goes unnoticed by EFA leadership (unless you like kissing ass). I have had excellent client work but it’s performance impact is minimal against your internal EFA performance (i.e. kissing your EFA office lead, manager and holding your India resource hands on basic things)
Happy to chat directly if you had any questions
EFA’s at Deloitte have super high burnout. You have utilization requirements and firm initiatives. The EFA organization is a well run machine and there isn’t really any room for flexibility. You come and run your queries and invoice and your day is like Groundhog Day. They are moving to services under finance soon so I would not expect consulting salary or bonuses.
That being said, you do get a very good understanding of engagement financials (although most EFA’s have no idea how this translates to firm financials) and it could be a stepping stone to other areas of Deloitte / consulting, if you do a good job and build the right relationships.
EFAs have been in services for years. This move is changing which team the ultimately roll up under. Agree that it’s a great jump off point to another area of the firm because they touch so many different teams.
