The usual rule of thumb around here is a minimum of 20% bump.
Is this for the whole package or the base salary?
Chief
In this environment to go consulting to consulting I’d want a premium. Probably 35%
Agree. I’d push hard and settle around 35%
Look up on Glassdoor for example and see what they typically pay that position. Ask for the higher end of the salary range that Glassdoor shows and see what they say
More than you can afford, pal
Ask for stock too. I missed this point and it’s basically free money in negotiations
C1, Accenture is not private. That’s what folks are trying to say here.
You are not getting stocks at B4, MBB etc.
Follow the 20% rule of thumb but there are caveats. If you’re lateraling to an MBB, you will likely not get a bump since they leverage their brand power and standard pay bands with candidates.
If non-MBB, keep in mind that although you may see an initial pay bump, you may be right-sized the following year. Sometimes that can lead to your TC being less than if you stayed at S&.
Is this a lateral move or a promotion? If the former, not sure if a flat % always works. Some firms have salary bands that are pretty strict, so I’d definitely keep a % in mind but also be self aware about my current pay as well and if I’m already paid well.
Lateral
Here’s how you should calculate;
+10% if you’re happy at your current firm
+10% if designation won’t change
+10% to leave your network and build a new one
+10% if working arrangements change (wfh to hybrid etc)
+10% if HCOL or you need to move without relocation assistance
+10% if much smaller firm and benefits / systems suck
-10% if you got passed on for promotion or don’t like where you are
-10% if you’re moving to a practice you like working in
-10% if it’s a better brand / better benefits overall
-5% if you just got promoted within the last year and still catching up with r&r
-10% if you like your potential boss (or they like you)
-5% for better cultural fit
-5% if they don’t have independence requirements
See what that adds up to and move based on your situation.
