I like candidates who paid attention to relevant news about the industry and ask thoughtful questions about it. It means the person has done his/her homework
This isn't so much a curveball, but more the best one I've seen asked.
Its to ask for direct feedback about the interview and ways to improve the interview itself. As it causes immediate reflection and learning regardless of what happens next post-interview.
The only candidates that ask of me are also ones that seem to be the best fit for the role. How/why that is can be any number of factors that I don't know, but its what I've seen so far.
