Always, always ask for their band/number first. #1 rule of negotiation.
I believe Amazon caps all employees for salary, and only allows stock (or stock options) past a certain point. You should confirm what that limit is ahead of time.
Don’t propose anything. They are not allowed to ask you your current salary and when they pressure you for a number say you expect a competitive offer based off your years of experience and capabilities for the role.
I did this and they made me a great first offer which I countered and won ($25k more). Figure out which level you’re applying to- L4, 5 or 6 and you can look up on levels.fyi where your total comp should be
Agreed. I was offered a role in that dept ( I eventually turned it down for another offer) and there is a strict salary cap so negotiation is only avails for RSUs. My base was 85K in Chicago and 3 RSUs if I’m remembering right. So in NYC it should be 100K base.
