I'm sorry, I know this feeling all too well. Have you tried reaching out to staffing agencies that specialize in healthcare? I know it's not ideal, and the pay might be lower than what you're used to, but some of them have connections that get you past the resume black hole. At minimum it could be something while you keep looking for permanent roles. Hang in there ❤️.
I’m so sorry but I’m going through the same thing
During Covid the schools closed and as mother we had to take of our kids but this recruiters always ask the gap in my resume. I did caregiving at night because the company I worked for had kidney patients who couldn’t come to doctors appointments anymore.
I don’t understand why this recruiters disregard the Covid period😡😡
No one responds they say it's open and it's a great fit for you but then I don't hear nothing else back so I don't know if they even
I am in the same boat!! I have probably applied to over 100 open positions since November and just ghosted!! I have had a couple phone interviews and then its just an endless waiting game...I wish I had some advice for you. I have had to start applying outside of healthcare in hopes of securing something just to pay the bills. I feel like that is the same. I'm not hearing anything on that front either!
Same here! I normally work in the healthcare field; I had a few interviews that went very well, but I wasn't chosen. I've applied to jobs outside my scope of practice and am still having a difficult time.
I am having the same experience. I have over 25 years of experience and in years past, I was able to obtain a new position very easily. Now I'm seeking a new role and I've applied too well over 200 jobs with only one response back. I'm completely baffled. Thank you for this post ! I was so curious if anyone else with the same level of experience is having the same problem? I don't know what to attribute this to? I'm told age discrimination is a factor, I'm told AI is a factor in screening resumes and if you don't have certain keywords, your application gets discarded. I don't know what to make of it..
Thanks !
Same here. I guarantee you age has something to do with it, because I am well qualified, even over, and still not getting hired. I dress professionally in person or even on the phone (in case they want to have a Teams interview). My hair and make-up are always done, and I have a nice smile. It has to be my age!
Yes I have been a nurse for over 42 years with lots of experience. I have applied for over 10 jobs and had not been hired. I don’t understand it that always say it was a hard decision to choose between me and another applicant. I have worked at a hospital, dialysis center, have been a charge nurse, have past medication, did treatments and dressings, did Trach care, suction and bagged patients and lots more. My list goes on and on. I feel when they don’t hire us it’s their lot not ours.
Going through the same with a Masters Degree
I wanted to respond as well as this outlook for job prospects have been dismal for me as well. I have over 20 years experience in mental health care, a Master's Degree and have the qualifications that fit for the role for job's listed. It does not make sense that someone is ghosted when putting so much work and effort into trying to connect for a possible position and explore that. I believe it might speak to the the company culture or perhaps they may not have the time to respond due to an influx of many applications? Interestingly enough- AI was supposed to support information flow. You might think that AI could serve to at least reach out to you to indicate that they had received your application and provide information about next steps. Information technology was supposed to create pathways and clarity. I think we are witnessing AI system failure and a human driven partnership with this that has lost its humanity.
I posted as 👆to stay anonymous but yes!! I am a ASP paramedic (22 years) a licensed phlebotomist, and a wildland firefighter as well as a single mom and SAME THING!!! I have applied and applied and exact same issue. I’ve even had a few interviews that went really well but was told “we are interviewing a few people for this position so if you don’t hear back the position has been filled”..
At this point I’m applying everywhere to have some kind of income because rent is due and my kids need things. So it’s not just you girl, I’m having the same problem :(.
Me too is sad
I have been searching and the pay for a caregiver is at $17 hour! How is one supposed to survive on that and I have 38 years of experience in the field!
Healthcare employees should be paid the most! Here we are, risking our health and well-being, not to mention the long hours. I love doing it, and I don't look for praise, but the pay SHOULD be compensating
Yes I know what you mean. I have over 42 years of experience. I have been putting in applications too. But my daughter made a comment the other day that made me think. She said a lot of times. AI looks over these applications we fill out online. They are the ones that picks who they think is a good candidate for the job. After putting in so many applications I think she must be right. AI might not be programmed to know how to pick candidates by experience. Then again I was thinking people or AI knows that if a candidate has so many years of experience they need to paid them more then someone with little or no experience. That’s just my thoughts and opinions. I could be right.
Yes and unfortunately trying to apply to jobs and living in one state and applying to another state that I’m moving to. No one is responding since I’m living out of state
Same. I’ve been looking since November when we moved and can’t find anything. Have tons of healthcare experience as a unit clerk/secretary and EVS.
I was laid off from my new job 1/8/26 so surprised I still have PTSD i don’t want to do anything. Perhaps you can get a certificate of phlebotomy.
You are too experienced. They would have to pay you more, taking $$$$ out of the CEO's pocket. We can't have management suffer now, can we?
I’m having a hard time too :(
I’m a care giver at a senior living facility and want to expand my knowledge and it’s been hard because everyone requires at least 1 year of experience.. how to gain experience if they won’t hire me :(
Im so sorry you are going thru the stress. It took me 5 months to finally get a job. Im an LPN with 28 year experience. Good luck something will eventually come your way . Don't give up. :)
I hear you same here, the cost of living is exploding it seems price go up by the the week. I am 62 and have 3 jobs work my tail to bone and still can hardly pay the pills.
Try multiple part time jobs, seems the only solution and hope and pray the the wages go up !
I as well have to work two jobs to meet high insurance, medical and cost of living. I am the same age. It sucks and is demeaning. Please hang in there!!!
It escapes me. I have been in the same boat for over 16 years now. It is an employer's market and my feeling is if you are not bright and shiny they view one as too expensive and intelligent to hire. I have recruiters working with me who are stumped. I have impeccable references, experience, etc... I have had some offers yet they are low-balled, I'm told I'm too expensive or over-qualified. I have asked other HR directors for coaching and they have all said I didn't need it as I've done my homework, have a solid background however we all feel for me it is my age. Employers aren't dumb and they figure it out so we imagine they calculate insurance costs, feel age is a handicap, etc. In my current setting I've seen wonderful solid candidates get passed over my decision for something bright, shiny and lacks integrity. We then inherit an HR issue because of that. Many positions I've applied for or interviewed for almost always repost within 1-3 years for a new one when I know I would have been solid and loyal. My last two positions saw my experience yet there was bait and switch after signing on pay and benefits as I feel they got what they wanted. To pursue legal is very expensive, hard and not worth it to me. I hope wish and pray you find something wonderful soon. Just know, it most likely isn't you, it's them.
Ageism in healthcare is very real. It's disgusting.
Quite a few jobs have been ghosting people.
Struggling the same here on the east coast!
I am for sure
