Hello!
I finished my final round(s) for a TAM position at Google (GCP) last week and was told by my recruiter that my feedback was great and that I made a solid impression on the team and am "firmly in the running". I was supposed to hear back this week (according to the recruiter) but he just told me that it's still in the process and that I'll have to wait for another week or so.
Is this common at Google ? I have heard they are notorious for being really slow with their hiring process.

Outside of the fact that half our firm just got laid off, our firm is a great place to work.
After MBB, all major strategy houses are pretty much the same. We are all fighting for number 4 spot after Booz was acquired. There are some leaders in terms of brand value right now. I would still say ACN strat, s&, OW, Alixpartners, and ATK have the better brands from a *pure strategy* point of view than a Deloitte, EY, KPMG. I would not include LEK in that list. Why? because I don't like LEK1's tone ^^^^^^
Depends on what you want to hear.
^then you are like us.
In my mind ATK and OW are competitive for most MBB-like non MBB
Someone from ATK once told me that ATK is referred to as a poor man's McKinsey. With that said their PAS practice is top notch.
It's been a couple days since I've seen a grammatically correct sentence that's as confusing as that one ^
Interesting that you are asking about 3 comparable brands, not companies. ATK is their own company where the other three only exist to fool former clients
Well now this conversation has gone off the rails...
Parthenon isn't really comparable due to its size and focus on PE (more similar to L.E.K.). I'd like to think we're on the same tier and most similar to OW and S&
@S&2: No. We are not all “fighting” for #4. Vault Rankings exist for a reason and Deloitte has been #4 for several years.
How bad are the layoffs at ATK and S&. Have heard about them in multiple years at S& (peers work there) but heard the ATK ones were more cyclical and less of a long term pattern.
And from my perspective I think it goes MBB - OW>ATK>LEK - Parthenon>Deloitte>S&. This is based on outcomes from recruiting both undergrads and MBAs across different schools. I think big4 consulting does good work, but audit clients get preference so you're hamstrung a little there. Also many recruits don't want to have to deal with a larger bureaucracy where management consultants generally have to listen to accountants because MCs tend to think they're more creative and smarter than accountants.
Wasn't meant to be offensive in my tone at all and sorry if it came off like that. Just wanted to give my full perspective truthfully
Tone could be better, but was I wrong?
P1 that is absolutely not true. We fired 10% of our new analysts 6 months into the job. Is this the norm for any other firm? Does any other firm fire people after their FIRST REVIEW 6 months out of undergrad?
@SC1: I meant that leadership at big4 firms tends to be made up of accountants compared to MCs, and yes the decisions of firm leadership does affect the consultants.
@PwC1: I'm glad to hear that from your firm. However, in my experience from talking to partners at other big4 firms they did not have a similar experience to you. They spoke of losing client prospects to accounting or other divisions, and one of them was from PwC.
I think MC at a big4 MC group is great and know people who love it there. But because some of the smaller only consulting firms don't have to deal with former accountant leadership and potential client conflicts, I give them an edge over Big4 in terms of the nebulous "rankings."
Hang in there @S&1
This is pure curiosity, I have no bias. Is the pecking order considered MBB, ATK/OW, Big 4 Strat?
To everyone else on this thread from other firms- please enlighten us here. Do your firms fire people after their first review? Or fire a significant number of analysts after 6 months on the job?
P1: as mentioned above I didn't say it was half the firm. I would hope that everyone on this thread knows that was hyperbole- no firm would ever fire half their people
P1: and regardless of the overall numbers across all levels I'll stand by the numbers I stated about analysts. I personally know enough analysts who got fired 6 months in to make up 10%, and I'm sure there were many more I don't personally know
