Yes, it's absolutely a pendulum — and we're mid-swing back toward in-house right now, driven by data ownership and AI tools making small teams scalable. But the pattern is: in-house builds until leadership changes or a recession hits, then agencies absorb the overflow. The people who win long-term aren't the ones who pick a side — they're the ones who've operated in both. In-house gives you P&L context and brand intimacy; agency gives you cross-category pattern recognition and client management reps. Two stints each before 40 is a stronger story than depth in one lane. Where are you sitting right now — agency or in-house?
I feel like in house has more stability though? I keep hearing about agencies losing accounts because clients are bringing those roles in house?
I've been agency side and am desperately trying to go in house.
Yeah. I don’t know which one is better but it’s good to position yourself for both, especially in tough economic times

I started in agency and moved in house. I feel like that’s a good way to get a lot of experience quickly. But I’ve been in house for over 5 years and there isn’t a lot of growth opportunities. Think that’s more of the pendulum or my company itself. How do you tell?
