In my view, it often reflects life circumstances, especially for those at the mid-level. It can be a mix of settling down, starting a family, or simply a sense of having put in the time and effort and now seeking greater flexibility. For me, it’s a sense of doing my time, and now I want some extra benefit for it. I’d be interested to hear from others at different points in their careers.
Completely understand that. I want the flexibility, but not necessarily at the cost of money. At least too much of the money, anyway.
I'm not sure there's any way to generalize about that. Those are personal choices, some people get very interested in work/life balance, others just want to go full bore all the time. It may also have to do with why someone became a lawyer. For some it can rooted in a family tradition rather than a personal ambition, and they may not be concerned with working beyond a minimal level.
I know it’s very personal but just want to hear people’s thoughts about it and sometimes it helps me to make decisions
Can only speak for myself and those in my circles (mostly female) but the majority are prioritizing balance. I hope there is a shift towards balance but I can't say that it's actually happening as the legal world can be quite entrenched in tradition.
Yes, most of my friends prioritize WLB and flexibility too
Yes because I have no chance at being a home owner unless I can get remote work. My husband’s job is tired to an extremely HCOL area, but he doesn’t make enough for us both. Been wanting to move away to a cheaper state, but without a job lined up remote is my only option.
I think it depends on whether there is a high-earning spouse or you’re the primary breadwinner. I’d love to prioritize WLB, but right now we need my paycheck.
