Assigned more areas because my areas are in good shape. Should I just do as what others are doing and just do the minimum required work and don’t care about things being delayed because the audits gonna go out anyways?
The best advise I can give younger staff is to fly middle of the pack. Don't be a deadbeat. Bring something to the table. But avoid being a standout in your class. The standouts are always rewarded... with more work.
Couldnt agree more, you have to play the game really. Its all about strategy in the workplace.maybe rather than spending 1 hour working, you should spend 1 hour thinking about how to best place yourself i.e underpromise and over deliver
There’s always work to do lol🤷♀️ it might depend on what your goals are in the firm. I know it sucks to be “rewarded” with more work when you finish early. But it’s kind of a team job, so if you are a team player, it’ll make you look better. People will want you on their team, if you want a promotion, you could have someone who wants to advocate for you, etc etc.
True.. I’m in audit, so it’s gonna be a max 6 months difference in terms of promo to manager and I’m not gonna get paid more than peers.. so I think I’ll try to do what others are doing and nothing more 😐
I know this is not due to me being assigned on less areas / less complex areas, because I’m doing riskier areas and have the crappiest client counterpart. I feel like I’m being punished for working hard and now I don’t know if I should stop working hard like wtf
I've been in your shoes and have gotten destroyed bc I became overwhelmed with the tasks on hand.. is if you suddenly dip in productivity mgmrs do notice and will question whether you are burning out...once you accepted the work you already accepted responsibility so you can't back out, but the win-win is to compile all the work you have on your plate this given moment, the expected deadline and budgeted hours - if its not realistic speak up that you are concerned about meeting the deadlines.or next time when you are rewarded with more work ask where does that land on your priority list
Cant agree more with PWC1. As a staff I also thought that I am being punished because I am good. But there is a definite benefits in the long run. Hard work being noticed and being rewarded. Most likely you would end up working on better clients and compensated better.
