I have plenty of coworkers that did exactly that - if anything it prevents real suicide. Why would it be career suicide?
Career suicide seems extreme lol
Definitely not career suicide, but be careful with Protiviti - they have a habit of cutting people when they need to make profits better. My friend used to work for them, they did several rounds of lay offs in the last year or so - including long term Directors. My friend left because he could never feel comfortable that he wouldn’t lose his job at any moment.
This isn’t true. I’ve worked at Pro for 13 years and we’ve had 2 rounds of layoffs since. Poor performers were always first to go. All of those that I saw get let go were questionable performers at the lower level or not consistently hitting their numbers at the upper levels.
I think you may want to consider shifting to the Tech Risk Management practice in advisory at KPMG before making the jump. External IT audit can be good if you want to grow your career in public, but the job is less complex and has less ownership than Internal IT audit. Internal IT audit allows you to define your scope and cover more IT risks, other than executing on financial audit's scope.
Hey JP, thanks for sharing your thoughts. If you dont mind me ask more - Im trying to shift from big4 tech risk IT audit to internal audit technology audit group, specifically in JP but finding there’s huge gap between why we do as externally vs what IT IA is doing - to your point technology audit is way more complex. What specific department/ area should we applying for, i.e. more of a 2nd line of defense role like risk mgmt or still 3rd line IA?
You'll probably just have to say why you did it in an interview for other places. Its not a big deal.
