So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

McKinsey & Company How likely is McKinsey to rescind an offer if there's a recession/downturn before my start date? Received an Associate offer with a start date early in the Fall. But I'm worried about the offer being rescinded due to the ongoing McK scandals/issues and a potential recession in the making (which may prompt them to freeze hiring and/or renege offers).
Has this happened to anyone before at McKinsey, offer getting rescinded due to economic/company downturn? A bit worried

I dont think excel tests are common... just an assumed basic level of proficiency
The only excel test I ever had was for UBER and that was a take home.
Other than that I haven't heard of any - but also haven't looked into any analytics or operations heavy roles.
Oh like a live person is watching? That would be odd, I’ve only ever seen/done ones where it was like a “take home” Excel assignment or it was a machine-proctored one assessing how you use it.
Honestly expanding this a bit - undergrads come in with so few relevant foundational skills to entry level work it's kind of astonishing. Don't get me wrong; I'm incredibly impressed by the verve, range of experiences, and entrepreneurialism they DO have. They just don't have any of the fundamentals and it honestly makes things harder for them than needs to be.
I work in FDD though so I don’t need analysts to be able to do pretty slides and people manage when they start out. I need them to be able to build data books and analyze financials, but think maybe it’s just an M&A/Deals thing. But I guess that makes sense not to do excel tests if you never actually use excel.
It really depends on the area of consulting you’re going into, but for the most part, analysts should have an intermediate level of understanding. Sometimes I find it’s an oversight of testing it at interview phase, and then the analyst only realizes how much Excel they have to self-teach while on the job...
I was one of those fools who had no excel skills when I started. Learned tons on the job in the first couple months and now I’m one of the stronger ones in my class.
I never let excel get in the way of my case deliverables and I always took it on myself to put in extra hours to make sure I could deliver
It is. Eliminates the risk of hiring folks who are below par for certain roles - usually analysts.
Same reason you have tests for data analysts , developers etc.
The risk of using up your budget on a mediocre analyst is high.

I once had an excel test that auto-locked after 15 mins. Basic financial and valuation and also optimization test
I have only basic excel skills (barely any at all) because I’ve never needed to do more in excel other than make a table and enter data.
I’ve had a couple of excel tests when going through interviews for 2 tech companies
