Hi there. Ex Deloitte Sr Mgr here, currently in tech pre sales (SaaS / MarTech). Recently spoke to both Salesforce and Adobe recruiters for roles that I thought were lateral moves (Sr SA / Sr SC), therefore I did not proceed with the selection process. The recruiters from both companies told me they typically hire at that level, and people are considered for promotion to Principal in 1 to 2 years. I found that odd. Is that right? What’s the typical TC for SAs and SCs there? (15+ yrs exp).

There are many examples of exiting to ops/business roles. LinkedIn should show lots of BCG and McK exits to Bridgewater, Citadel, etc. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone exit to investment roles though. It is certainly a less common path and consulting to other forms of private equity.
It’s tough, I spent 8 months trying to land a Hedge Fund role out of MBB. Started looking on PE side and landed an offer within 6 weeks.
You need to demonstrate a clear passion for the markets and identify funds which value consulting skill set. In general, I found that activist or distressed credit tended to be the most receptive to MBB.
I was 2 YOE at the analyst level when I recruited. Ultimately decided that the buyside wasn’t the route for me, despite landing the PE role.
I have a few friends that are former I-Bankers and are now at various hedge funds. The best way to demonstrate interest would be to develop an investment thesis on a position and pitch it to the funds. From what I have heard, a CFA would really carry no weight in recruiting.
