Family are the first to take advantage of you just because y’all are related… I say charge them.. but offer the F&F discount
Lmao at SSM1 projecting their feelings about couples wanting to go away on holidays while they have kids. What’s so wrong with that? If the people sign up to help, that’s their prerogative. Who forced you to watch their kids mate? You sound like an unreasonably selfish person that regrets their own decisions and now projecting on others. Calm down.

If you aren't raised in American culture, more often than not, you find reason to say thank God! This is one of them. Very strange to charge your own family for something as simple as watching their pet. WEIRD!

@SM, do not bring your BS to my inbox, you desperate attention seeker.
Only if you have already paid them back for everything that they have ever bought you
🙄 It’s ok to be inconvenienced sometimes. Especially for family and friends. I’m sure they have been inconvenienced for you a time or two.

We pet sit for friends and don’t charge money. It’s something people do for each other. If you need money get a job and if you need people on your life don’t make money off them for trivial things. If your job, or business is to take care of pets, I would not charge family.
I don’t understand the logic of “then decline, don’t ask for money” like if I was the person owner I would way rather pay a friend 50% of what I’d pay to board so from that perspective why would they rather have me decline??
Tell them to expect an invoice.
Lol I’ve dog sat for a cousin out of town multiple times. Never asked for money or even thought of it.
Is the dog chill?
There are 3 of them, tho
Yes it’s rude. You could say no.
Don’t be a dick! Move your work set-up! It’s probably a couple of hours of work for you to move your set-up for the two weeks. If you are still annoyed ask her to help you move the set up and find a spot for your work things.
I would never charge my family for this. I wouldn’t complain about it if I agreed to do it. You could have politely said sorry, I’m unable to pet sit for you or yes, if your pet stays with me.
Take the L. Your family should have offered out of courtesy. They don’t have to. But if they didn’t and you accepted just do it cheerfully. Don’t mention money now or later. Ever.
Decline next time they ask.
Get roommates for cheaper rent.
A 2B1B is usually much cheaper with a roommate than a 1B1B alone.
Some of you are wild, it’s you’re parents. Just sit the damn dog or say no if it’s that terrible to your life.
Maybe you’ll have kids one day, maybe they’ll be your free baby sitter. I’m sure they won’t mind, and if they do they won’t be trying to charge you.
So what OP? Didn’t you say the dog belongs to your sister? Starting to sound like you’re grasping for straws and need any excuse to justify charging your family member for watching the dog.
I think our culture has move a lot towards being wanting to be compensated for everything. Except when there are direct costs to you, there are some things you just do for family and friends without requesting to be paid, like dog sitting.
You have to look at it from two ways: it’s a fair request from you (in an economic sense), but because it’s family, it’s an impossible request (in an emotional sense).
You only have two options when it comes to these kinds of favors that you don’t want to do or that impose some difficultly on your personal life. I advise #2.
1) Either smile and do it without payment.
2) Or make up an excuse as to why you’re “busy” (very important) and can’t do it.
Different if it was your parents vs. this situation (other relatives). Then it depends on the type of request.

Is it rude to ask a family member to live at my house and walk my dogs several times a day and not offer compensation of some kind?
Yes, yes it is!

My family and friends dog sit my dog, either hanging at my house for a bit while I’m gone or I’ll drop my dog off at their place. For family, I generally take them to a nice dinner after and give about $10-20/day because they always wind up buying my dog toys or some fancy treat. For friends, I’ll buy them dinner or drinks because they don’t generally like to accept cash. These are all for shorter 2-5 day trips. To not offer you anything for two weeks is absurd to me, especially since you have to stay in their house. They should offer to cover gas, your food or stock the fridge for you. You’re saving them a ton on boarding for the two weeks so it’s ungrateful not to offer something to you.
I pay my college aged son to dogsit. It is inconvenient for him, and it would cost me a lot more with the added stress of a stranger in my home. Win win!
You gotta love America! No wonder there are tons of people with mental health issues on the streets. Even family members don’t support each other.
My sister house sits to watch our 2 dogs, she’s a college student but I still pay her

If it’s as simple as stopping by on your way to and from work (and it’s on the way) that’s one thing. Or watching for a weekend.
But putting someone out for two weeks is a long stretch of time. I’d pony up at least $200 and leave a packed fridge.
If I go out of town internationally and my mom watches the dog I give her the option of staying at my place or hers, leave some incidental cash regardless, and if at my place I make a Costco run in advance.
You should ask for a 1099 at the end of the year. 🤣
Sorry this is funny 🤣
