Family are the first to take advantage of you just because y’all are related… I say charge them.. but offer the F&F discount
Lmao at SSM1 projecting their feelings about couples wanting to go away on holidays while they have kids. What’s so wrong with that? If the people sign up to help, that’s their prerogative. Who forced you to watch their kids mate? You sound like an unreasonably selfish person that regrets their own decisions and now projecting on others. Calm down.

If you aren't raised in American culture, more often than not, you find reason to say thank God! This is one of them. Very strange to charge your own family for something as simple as watching their pet. WEIRD!

@SM, do not bring your BS to my inbox, you desperate attention seeker.

Lmao what are you 12 trying to save money for a new xbox? Hahah the audacity to even entertain this 🤣. You can’t just bring the homie to the apartment?

3 dogs and a cat in one apartment is not going to go unnoticed by a landlord.

I think they should offer you money instead of putting you in that situation.
M1 agreed. I have asked my nephews to watch our small dog before, but they get to come stay at our house (which they love) - we live on a lake, have a hot tub, live more conveniently to work then where their parents live, and so on, so it’s fun for them. Then I have paid them something as a surprise on top of that.
Why can't they board the animals? I don't understand this new fad of pet sitting (at least it's newer for me).
It’s super expensive. I had to pay $650 for a week for my dog when I went on vaca.
When I ask my sister to pet sit for me (like stay in my house away from her home), I always pay her and would never expect her to do it for free if that helps. I also stock the kitchen with things she wants and she has use of my pool, etc. But I still think she should be paid for her time because she's spending it in a way that I've asked her to and not at her own leisure.
Most realistic answer I see.. it wasn’t about the money it’s the inconvenience and they expect her to do it not caring that she works from a home office losing out on her pay. It’s not just one dog it’s multiple. Most of these comments are judging instead of being realistic of life situations. When ppl think your always available they treat you as such like YOUR personal time does not matter

It’s rude that they didn’t offer to pay. If they did in fact offer, totally fine to accept. Otherwise, if you committed to doing it without asking for payment, it’s a bit rude to ask now. However, next time they ask, politely decline saying that while you would love to help it takes a lot of time and was costly for you to stay at their house. They will get the hint.

Bottom line is this: OP agreed to do something that is very inconvenient for him. He should have said no. Family requesting such an inconvenience should have offered to pay, but they didn’t. OP, you can ask for money but at this point it will come off as rude. I think a more constructive post would have been worded as “I said I’d do a favor, I didn’t realize how inconvenient it would be, how do I back out?” OP, either be ok with being rude and asking for money (if that makes you feel better about the inconveniences), or tough it out and use this as a learning lesson about thinking through favors and saying “no” in the future.
OP, you clearly came here looking for affirmation and keep responding with justifications/adding more information in disparate threads
Just go ask them for money.
No It’s not rude. That’s part of pet ownership. Part of the reason I moved 1,000 miles away from my nearest relative so they won’t rip me off
Wasn’t just that. That was just a small benefit. I wanted to do my own thing in a new city
Don’t know if I’d call it rude, but it’s pretty weird to charge your mom a fee for doing her a favor. Either do it, or don’t.
Oh for sure charge your sister. Not full rate, but…. Something. It would cost them at least $30/day to get a dog sitter.
Before a proper answer, how much were you planning on charging?
You shouldn’t have to ask. They should offer.
Yea bro you're being cheap. I've had this argument with my parents many times before. Just help them out
BOA 1... You can argue it the other way. It is OPs busy season and OP had a built in excuse to say no and other arrangements could have been made. Did IP discuss payment before agreeing? Were the parents clear on the fact that they would be expected to pay?
Bottom line is, from the comment OP posted, it is clear they did not want to do it. OP should have just said no. Could it cause arguments.. probably but at least it would be out in the open and they won't ask OP anymore.

Your own apartment that you pay a lot of money for?? Maybe you could charge your friends (if you have any with this whiny attitude) for your time away if you take a vacation with them
If you’re going to be bitter about doing it for free, don’t do it.
If the task was that detrimental to your schedule you should have declined in the first place. Griping over $50 just makes you look greedy and petty.
Really ? You wanna charge your mom or sister 50 bucks for a favor ? I'm sure they can return the favor some other time ?
Woah I have no words. Truly speechless.
Sorry about that
I personally think charging your family is weird. Only bc, if it’s that much of an inconvenience, the person asking for a favor would typically offer to pay beforehand. Anyway, It’s your family and only you know y’all’s dynamic. Just know you’re setting the precedence in your family of charging for favors. So I hope next time you need a favor, and you will bc that’s how it works, youre ready to pay.
I actually didn’t mind it. At that point, I was living at my parents rent free and did my Master’s at home since the university was shut down. I think it gave me a sense of normalcy where otherwise I would have been super isolated. Some people think I’m entitled or greedy. Everyone has a right to their opinion because I did ask.
First, Pay back your mother for carrying you in her womb for 9 month.
Paralegal 1, and as you can see, there are a variety of answers and opinions. We all have different views.
You’re willing to alter their perception of you, maybe forever, for like 250 bucks?

M1. How is this helpful? “Types” like this don’t really exist.
Also, it’s his sister’s dog. His sister isn’t the dog
What have your parents done to make you this way lol
