Maybe if you're going to industry, but it doesn't get you anything in consulting
Probably not. Public sector/gov is the only place I can see that helping.
Important in federal. Many managerial or lead positions require it, because the government likes to think it is getting their money’s worth. The actual value is minimal, but it can be the difference between choosing you or someone else. Therefore: low value, but high worth.
Government contracting/ staff aug - yes
Management consulting - no
I agree
I think it can be helpful earlier in your career but by the manager level and beyond it doesn’t matter
Agreed on Public Sector
Huh thanks for your insight- I am on the gov side and have mainly heard good things about getting it, but then saw people saying otherwise on here
Do you buddy. Get it and live happily ever after
Def worth it just to put in signature/LinkedIn
So many people do this. It kills me 😩
Yes. Anyone saying it isn't, doesn't involve themself in that line of work
Keep in mind it’s free through Deloitte. If you have the time, it doesn’t hurt. Another certification to add to your resume!
My projects are small teams. I’ve avoided being the PMO on awful, larger projects because they only wanted PMPs. This gives me flexibility to do short, 6-8 week projects that I like, rather than long SAP implementations for example
Yes you’re definitely right. I am on the PMO side of things and everyone in the management role requires to have a PMP. You can’t be in my role without it. It’s part of LCAT requirements! If not, let’s say the gov decides to audit and the firm and founds out otherwise, they would be forced to pay back the money to the gov.
Nope
Agree with the above. Did mine because paid by industry employer. Some interesting concepts, but no rocket science. Practicing for exam is 99% memorizing the framework. Totally useless in terms of recognition or salary in my current job (MBB).
PMP is sooo 1990’s
