take job with long commute or stay at b4?
Does anyone have any insight into accounting roles at Amazon, particularly in the Arlington/DC area? An Amazon recruiter reached out about accounting roles, but the posts in this bowl are about Seattle. Trying to decide if the culture/wlb/pay is even worth looking into since it sounds like the interview process is intense. Base pay seemed pretty low in other posts, but they were a year old and for Seattle.

Depends what you want to do, the best exits historically are one year into senior or one year into manager. Can still land very good gigs at SM and Director level but the pay on public at those levels usually is equal to or greater than the usual industry exits
Technically a lateral move progression wise, jumped just for comp - went from a new Senior 1 at KPMG ($85k TC) to Senior 1 at my current firm ($145k TC). Same practice (Risk Advisory - SOX/IA), so same work, same WLB (was already great at KPMG), luckily have great teammates here as well (nearly all ex-B4/PA folks)!
It is typically worth leaving. This is how the system is structured, on purpose, keeping attrition levels high. Overwhelming majority leaves within 3 years. From looking at my colleagues, most manage to find good roles outside of public, and some find exceptionally good roles when they leave - they will not achieve this level of roles in case they stay in public, unless they make a partner. So the main career move is when you leave and go up/ upgrade your role at a new company, not when you stay and work, even with promotions. Even with regular promotions you ultimately get stalled in public and will fall behind in most cases.
