Always go for better work - it will help you in the long run
If you aren’t producing good work, it will be harder to get another gig. Money comes and goes in this market
I made a lateral move for a chance at better work and I regret it all the time tbh. "Better work" is not a given in the current state of our industry. I couldve jumped for a lot more money.
No one will ever know it was a lateral move unless you tell them. I dunno, from where I’m sitting, it looks like you got a 20% raise with the new gig…
What?
Agree with CD1 & CD3. If it’s to a better name agency (eg W+K or Mischief) at a lateral level and salary, after grinding it out for a year or more, you bet your next move from there is going to be a salary jump.
It’s one giant holding company agency to another giant holding company agency
In addition to considering factors like agency name, reputation, prestige, bigger/better work: think about what narrative you want your career to craft. Treat your career as you would a campaign, a client, or a brief. Ultimately, it comes down to what makes you happy—if you’re ready to go, leave! Just make it look good along the way.
