It's technically a sick day - because mental health is health. Is there a difference in how you report it in your time keeping system? If not, I would not disclose unless you are asked...even then, be cautious and document that you shared that info in the event you end up finding you've been discriminated against on the basis of disability related to mental health. Remember it's work and disclosing info that personal can result in adverse employment actions even from those you might trust.
I just take it as a sick day. I don’t tell people it’s a mental health day because it’s no one else’s business.
I would love it if my company did this. I've taken PTO when I really needed a mental health day, but I really don't like using my PTO for that kind of thing. I feel like I should save it for vacations and not one-off mental health day. I would love if they had a program like this, and I honestly think it would help with burnout and retention. Yeah, we are employees, but we're also people.
As others said, it is included in the sick leave days. It is not a stand-alone, extra allotment of PTO days. If it were, I'm afraid it would just be abused as extra vacation days. Hate to say it, but there are too many employees who try to "game the system."
It can be a leave of absence. Aka stress leave.
It's not really labeled as mental health leave but it's considered to be like a sick leave. You can ask your HR about it just to make sure because every company has their own policy regarding that matter. But I think it's already being recognized now.
