I would think that it would only be important when trying to attract new customers to your business/community. I'm not an SEO expert, but I believe it's valuable for web content. I'm not sure if it matters as much for social content. Anyone know?
While SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a useful skill for community managers, it may not be considered essential in all cases.
The primary responsibility of a community manager is to manage and engage with a community of people online, typically on social media platforms or other online forums. While having some knowledge of SEO can help a community manager to better understand how content and engagement can impact search rankings and website traffic, it is not always necessary for their role.
That being said, if a community manager is responsible for creating and publishing content, or if their organization places a high emphasis on website traffic and search rankings, then having a basic understanding of SEO can be helpful. It can also be useful to work closely with a SEO specialist or digital marketing team to ensure that their content and engagement efforts align with the overall marketing strategy.
In summary, while SEO may not be essential for all community manager roles, having a basic understanding of it can be beneficial, especially if their role involves content creation or website traffic goals.
