My team is very supportive. My husband works weird hours and I often have to log offline for a few hours in the afternoon/evening to pick up my toddler, do dinner, bath, bedtime. Then I hop back online to complete anything else. As long as I get my work done, my team has been cool with it. I’ve made it clear to them that if something isn’t working, they need to speak to me directly before escalating and I will work with my husband to shift schedules.
We are also being asked to RTO and my commute is almost 2 hours each way. I try to get work done on the train and make sure my calendar is blocked when I am unavailable or in spotty Wi-Fi areas.
I also let my HR person know about my schedule so they are aware and they have also been supportive.
Pros: I have become very good at managing my time during my working hours and my team has been great at trying to accommodate meetings.
Cons: I do get worried about the appearance of my calendar being consistently blocked, and there have been a handful of times my husband has had to shift his schedule to support, but he’s been great.
My team is very understanding and supportive. Our daycare recently cut hours and I have to leave pretty early on in-office days to pickup my son on time. If I need to I log back on after bedtime I do.
