It seems in M&A tax space that EY and Deloitte are quick to hire when economy is good and just as quick to perform mass layoffs when it hits a snag. It also seems that PwC and KPMG generally keep their people during these times. Thoughts?

That has definitely historically been true. PwC and KPMG care more about training their employees up and having them stay long term in general.

Yep Deloitte generally overhires

Yeah EY and Deloitte recruiters are the ones who used to hit me up on linkedin constantly

Did ey layoff anyone? It is only Deloitte?

like

Also for what it’s worth PwC and KPMG m&a tax recruit jd/llm’s more frequently, whereas I don’t know anyone from my ll.m class that went to Deloitte. JD/ll.m’s are much more difficult to replace.

@PWC is worst company for freshers. They are force innocents to resign by themselves and threating then to not to mail anyone and not share this context to anyone worst company, if layoff means ok removing and threatening to not to disclose to anyone means the have lost every single moral. Don't fall trap in the brand name @PWC.

Does Globant terminates the employment of certain trainees after their probation(3 Months) based on their performance in the training period? Some of the fresher trainees were laid off this morning without giving a notice or reason.

We were told that the probation period is a training period & not an elimination one. It was shocking as a few of those trainees were actually good.

The week of my wedding, my husband (PL SQL Developer 4 yoe) was laid off. That was a couple of weeks ago. Luckily I'm still bringing money in as a software engineer, but I'm looking for advice on how to support a partner who has been laid off. Ultimately I think we will be ok, but I know he's hurting / stressed / and could use a supportive partner.

With so much uncertainty in the economy and waves of layoffs that have hit tech especially hard... do we think there's really such a thing as a recession-proof job anymore if you're not an "essential worker"?

The Current scenario of high attrition rates and job shift by taking multiple offers has been caused by a resource crunch in the market. However I have a feeling that this particular scenario of shifting jobs by way of multiple offers and getting high salary is creating a bubble in the market which will burst causing a ripple effect of lay offs due to cost saving efforts by organisations in the near future. In a scenario like this how can one change the job by avoiding the bubble?

Any thoughts around how to use M&A tax skills for the better good? I’m a CPA and originally got into this for a stable / interesting job, but in the long-term I’d like to do something that either influences drafting of tax legislation or helps the public (however naive that may sound).
