"It's a bad time to be a 22-year-old just entering the workforce. They're going to be jobless for most of their lives." says an older woman in my office. I am 22, and I think it was both laugh-worthy and introspection-worthy to hear that. Do the rest of you here think the same for the generation of workers?

The job market is definitely tough and unpredictable right now, but I think “jobless for most of their lives” sounds way too bleak. Our generation has mad adaptability and creativity, not to mention new opportunities tech brings. It’s more about navigating differently, not just giving up.

No, I think it’s rough right now and it may be a bit before it gets better but, everything evolves and I imagine we are just at an inflection point right now but I am hopeful that we figure it out soon

No, there will be jobs. BUT….I do have concerns about the current generation’s general thought process that everything should be run by their standards. I see lots of posts and hear comments complaining that their employers have such outrageous demands in expecting them to show up for work each day, in the office, arrive on time, dress to a certain standard, and do so for less money than they feel they truly deserve. (And my generation starts in with the “back in the day..” speeches.) They readily complain about older generations being out of touch forgetting that the older generation are the ones right now in charge of hiring and firing. Yes, there will be jobs, but it will be a rough road for them until their generation is running the show. And by then they will have the next generation complaining how THEY are running things. And the generational trips around that great circle will continue.

I can't blame the elderly for looking for the silver lining in being part of the past and mostly on their way to dying.

Depend on your degree and where you live too, while it’s certainly OK in some places there are definitely opportunity deserts out there that aren’t coming back. Bleak future as companies race to merge and find the cheapest labour.

People said the same thing in 2008. Jobs were tougher to come by but things eventually turned around.

There are people who never worked after college on Reddit. And I didn't work for 20 years except 2 years and some casual temp jobs. You never think it could happen to you. But its the reality that many are facing right now.

Anyone else having trouble focusing today? Every time I have a long break and come back to the office I’m reminded how much I don’t like my current job. ID Associate and I have such a hard time concentrating even after a week off. I find it mind-numbing and unfulfilling. I’m never excited to come to work anymore for the past few months now. Just found out from a legal recruiter that I’m also way underpaid here. Hopeful I’ll get a job in a diff area of law or find another calling altogether.

Thoughts on “special” salary grades. I just found out the VP I was offered is not a grade 12 like most comparable roles (verified). Also not an 11, but an 11A. Slightly higher than an 11, a good bit lower than a 12. All due to the fact that it’s a leap from my current position. Why should that matter…..shouldn’t it pay what it should pay if I am selected, rather that curving down towards my current rate?

Is there any good reason to take a 10+ minute call in a bathroom stall at work? Noticing people doing this as RTO ramps up and I really don’t understand why you wouldn’t go outside or at least in your car.

This is twice now in back to back weeks my boss has asked me where the disconnect was in our communications because I didn’t deliver on what “was asked”, even though I know damn well what was asked and what was done were the same thing. I’m not sure if he’s changing the meaning or isn’t communicating what he’s envisioning or what but it’s embarrassing to be called out like that, and to have people think you’re the dumb 23 year old.
