yesss. I was just thinking about this recently, I’ve been at my job for 2.5y (the longest I’ve ever been at a job so far) and there’s no reason for me to leave but I still get that feeling like I should run before I get burned.
I had to remind myself that I am safe in my role and I can just…stay here as long as it’s useful to me.
So I’m trying real hard now not to be on the defensive all the time like “when will they fire me?” and moreso on the side of “is this still useful for me?”
And if I’m let go in the meantime for some unforeseen reason, whatever, I’m soaking up as much as I can while it’s useful to me and that’s my priority ✨
Absolutely. I think it’s crucial to double back, though, and allow yourself the opportunity to formulate and, then, acknowledge the actual reasoning/motivations behind the conclusions you’ve drawn for yourself. What is it exactly that is “unhealthy”?… For whom? And how? Then carry that through to the “professional,” portion, which is and should rightfully always come second! Here to say/remind and shout it loud: sometimes, it actually is you, not me.

Funny, I’m always afraid to leave a job where I’m safe because I fear getting fired anywhere new. Like I’ve fleeced these people into thinking I’m competent, better not take any risks in case other places are smarter.
Imposter Syndrome is a real bitch.
There's nothing wrong with being made redundant. If you think you're definitely going to be, why leave and miss the redundancy pay? It's a good cushion to give you time to plan your next move and reconnect with your contacts. Negotiate for a good severance package - never take their first offer. You'll end up in a better place. Trust me.
There’s a lot to unpack here but, basically, once you’ve been fired once it can erode all sense of job security. Truth is, that’s not really wrong. I’ve been let go twice, too, and it’s jarring. But it made me realize that no one is indispensable, so no one really has “job security”.
But the real question is what’s driving you fear of it happening again? Did those firings erode your self confidence, give you imposter syndrome, and now you are just waiting to be “found out”?
Or is it more of a general fear that life is unpredictable and you could get fired again at any moment?
Or, did you get fired for performance issues and now you think you’re just not good enough to keep a job?
The answers to those questions will help you determine your next steps and to quiet your fear of it happening again. I can’t give you specific advice on what to do next, but I’ll leave you with one on my favorite quotes: “Fear is often just a misuse of your imagination.”
