Law schools that have ABA approved paralegal programs. Many have an alumni job posting network or can post through the law school’s job posting platform. Also your local paralegal association or NFPA.
This is an excellent suggestion
If there is a paralegal organization in your area they will have a job board. Also re-evaluate the salary you’re offering if you are not attracting the level of candidate you want.
Agreed. I’m in Bryan/College Station, TX, which is between Austin and Houston. My firm is small, it highly-rated, and we perform quality, professional work on good cases. I need another legal asst with litigation experience who’s a quick study, but applicant pool here locally is small.
My current (rock star) paralegal was from Houston, and happened to marry a man who wanted to live on ranch nearby town. In accepting position with me, she made what she thought (at the time) was a leap of faith from her 20+ yr career in a PI lit in fancy Houston high-rise ofc to work with me in small ofc in B/CS guardianship and probate lit, having never done this work before. Yet she’s sharp as a razor, and committed-we were a match from the start.
My practice has exploded, and I need another candidate of quality like her (we’ve been together five years).
I’ve posted on Indeed, ZipRecruiter and similar sites, hoping to gain similar prospects from surrounding larger cities-but no luck so far.
My firm pays competitive rates (on highest end of market spectrum here), offers competitive 401k and opportunities for individual growth-yet salary is still comparatively less than what similar quality paralegals are receiving in the big city, which I think is the distractor-coupled with notion that many don’t want to move, until they get here and quickly realize what a gem this (exploding) town is!
Cost of living here is also considerably lower than big cities.
Suggestions?
Ensure your postings talk about those benefits to living in your locale.
What market are you in?
Where are you. If Bay Area, use Chris Crowley.
It was for an corporate paralegal position but also needed someone with IP work. They told me to say I had minimal IP work, although I had none. It’s not in my character traits to lie, so naturally I didn’t at the time of the interview. I remember questioning the recruiter, who I believe is now a VP or President now of Robert Half, and she said “a little white lie never hurt anyone” 🤦🏻♀️ I’ve never worked with them again.
LinkedIn or through the bar association if they have a job board!
