I’ve been thinking about picking up some additional skills outside traditional legal training — things like AI tools, data analysis, privacy, etc. — to make myself more competitive in the job market for in house positions. For recruiters and hiring managers — what side skills may genuinely increase a lawyer’s chances in general?

In general, the two big fields people keep talking about would be cybersecurity and AI. Getting certifications in those might be helpful, though most of them would require a background in programming. It would also be good think about what industries you'd be interested in working in and focusing in that direction.

Just got offered a job at a small biotech in London (UK). ~£45k plus bonus but only 1YR FTC and no equity.

I think this offer is well below par, but curious to hear what you guys think/if you have any comparisons?

Thanks in advance :)

Curious if anyone else is or has been in the same boat. I started as an assistant at an entertainment law firm prior to passing the bar. Upon passing, the partner told me they would hire an assistant for me since I now became an associate. That was 1.5 years ago and I am still in the limbo of juggling my own workload + doing assistant roles for my supervisors. I have also had no increase in pay, which is a huge deal for me. Is this normal in the entertainment world? Any suggestions?
