It’s nice to hear this because I feel the exact opposite way.
I would hate my job if I had to go into an office and to dinner with the project team
We only value soul less non-sense - stay and you will become one of us.
We live in unprecedented times. We know that because of the unprecedented number of times people use the words unprecedented times.
Wait for office work to come back in style (if ever) or start setting up afternoons with peeps in your city/area.
Not having met people is only normal because of covid, and I’m also at PwC so I can’t speak to the situation at other companies but I have to imagine that (with some minor exceptions) your experience most places for the past year would have been the same. If you don’t want to be remote post-covid, then don’t sign up for that option and talk to your coach and RL about opportunities for being staffed on projects that are starting to travel again.
Yeah I’m mainly just having a hard time building relationships with people behind a screen. It sounds stupid but I’d love to just go out to dinner with my project team. I’ve been with them for 6 months and it feels like I should know them on a personal level much better
Take the initiative and suggest a team dinner / activity to the senior team! Most folks would be down to do something fun - gotta fight that awkward feeling
Totally normal to feel that way. Your situation also isn’t abnormal for covid. It just is what it is right now unfortunately.
I’m much more like A2, but I get OP’s point. Does PwC have a plan for the people who don’t want to be remote? Is there a competitor more aggressive about returning to in person work that would be a better cultural fit?
To clarify the 100% remote work option that’s been announced - it’s voluntary, must be opted into and approved by leadership for each individual. So it’s not being forced on anyone. At this point most people can go into the office if we want to, so it sounds like this is a more acute issue of working within engagement teams to build relationships and a sense of belonging until more clients begin asking us to travel.
Op, what’s your age group?
Op I completely agree. It’s hard to develop meaningful relationships with people this way.
However, like other said, please be patient; grass is not greener in this situation. Take this time to really refine certain skills so that when you’re traveling you’ll hit the ground running. It’ll get better.
Leaving pwc after two years. Putting my two weeks in next week! I can’t wait.
Is this normal? No. C'mon... you recognize that the entire world has been dealing with a pandemic right?
