I've seen this implemented on many sites. Fake traffic and "members recently online" is another way of masking true online activity. Is this recommended for a site with low traffic? I guess it is demoralizing for potential new members to see no one online at the time of their visit, but are you also denying them reality if you serve them false statistics? Thoughts?

I'm only aware of bots commenting on social media profiles to make it seem like they are real people interactions. If you work on the analytics side and make up fake stats then that is a real red flag, since as CMs it's our job to build an actual community and encourage people to make connections.

I didn't know this was a thing. So are there bots always logged into the site to make sure it always says someone is active? I get it. If you come on a site for community and see no one is on there then you sill log off. Seeing someone on there will help people stay on longer
