Not big differences, but you will need to be prepared to handle different needs and expectations from these groups of people.
Be prepared for a work day full of explaining different terms and technology things to adults. They're cool tho, so I wouldn't worry too much about the switch.
There are LOTS of difference. Have you ever dealt with a 21 year old versus a 41 year in real life? Now translate that into a work setting.
The two communities will likely be quite different. The 20-somethings were just starting their lives and were looking for guidance, while the people in their 40s are more established and may be looking for a community to connect with others their age.
Older adult may be less likely to be active on social media or in online forums, preferring instead to connect face-to-face or through other offline channels. Overall, it will be important to listen closely to what this audience wants and needs in order to create a community that meets their needs.
It depends. What are the communities about and what do the members need?
Age might be a factor in culture and potential behaviour but other things are likely to be more important.
If there is an age difference between you and the community, this may mean that you need to consider how to mitigate that challenge.
Also, LOL at the people who think those in their 40s may not understand technology - many of them are late Gen X or Milennials!
