I’ve worked in audit within the hedge fund space for 3 busy seasons as a Senior Associate. What should I be looking for in an exit opportunity? Is fund accounting at a 3rd party fund admin a good opportunity?

So not go fund admin. Try to go straight into in-house fund accounting with a hedge fund. It should not be hard from big 4

like

Which fund admin do you work at?

Agree with others. Go straight into on-house fund accounting. Usually they pay pretty good.

like

Yes!

Going fund admin can make sense if you can’t get into an in-house fund from audit as its basically outsourced accounting work for funds.

With your experience though you should get in easy (theres still a nonsensical B4 audit bias, have my opinions on how dumb that is after working around what were mostly incompetent Ex Big-4 people in my clients as an auditor and in my fund admin clients but will leave that alone). I didn’t go B4 so am currently in fund admin for a mega fund admin with the hopes of being able to move in house somewhere soon

like

For the love of god… don’t do fund admin unless you want to get stuck here forever. I went from big4 audit to fund admin and hate it after only after a few months. No exit OPPs other than fund accounting, training isn’t good, limited resources, etc etc

Some investment companies are publicly traded so you could try financial reporting accountant or intercompany and consolidation accounting.

New York folks:
Are you aware of the CPA exam credit extension to 2021 for NY CPA candidates impacted by COVID19? It’s on a person-by-person basis and you need to request the extension. Has anyone tried doing this yet? Can anyone shine more light on this? The extension would really help me, but I’m not sure what more to tell them in my email than the fact that I couldn’t sit for the exams this Spring/Summer due to test centers closing in NYC.

GTM moving back into consulting is a good idea in theory, but it’s like a train wreck happening in slow motion.

Sure feels like they are pushing to stand up a traditional CRE network for product sales inside of consulting … that won’t work in a service business. Some of us have seen this movie before - different theatre.

Watch how this plays out over next 6 months.

I am actively looking for a change from Academia researcher to industry. I get job interviews in a big company. It has been in the 4 rounds for technical interviews talking to hiring manager, her peer, her boss. Yesterday was the 5th round talking to the HR director. I thought it was to negotiate salary. But it was just an conversation talking about who am I, career goals, questions etc. What is the point of this conversation? Will this impact the overall result? Anyone experienced this?
