Hi All, My sister has done Computer Science engineering Bachelor degree and has 5 years of work experience in India. She is applying for MBA at https://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/mba/full-time-mba/ and https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/full-time-mba/academics/majors-minors/marketing.html. Her overall goal is to get into Software Product management. Any suggestions if any of these MBA’s can open path in the desired space or if she is better of doing an MS in Comp engg. to further develop deeper Technology skills. Thanks
What would a typical path for TPM?

If you don’t feel comfortable with going to your coach, go one step above them. This is not okay. Life > work.
I think this is the route I’m going to take. Thanks!
Do you know any other managers+ in the group not on your immediate team? If you do, it might make it a easier conversation to have. In my experience most people are more than willing to be unofficial mentors and give guidance. If your performance is good, I also don’t think it would be a huge deal to talk to your coach, might feel uncomfortable but they would much rather you speak up and voice your concerns than you to completely burn out and quit.. you’d be surprised, they might not realize you’re struggling.. I’ve seen so many higher ups have this skill to be oblivious, especially if they work 24/7 (even if they are talking to you late night they somehow block it out). The last thing is they might be taking breaks that you don’t see, golf on friday/spends time with family but then makes up for it late night/weekends.
I made the mistake not speaking up when i was a senior and i ended up quitting.. after i boomeranged i’ve been very transparent, open about how i’m feeling, and learned to set boundaries that most of the time are respected without an impact to my rating/feedback
That’s the reason I’ve got any interest to join a Big4. My life is more important than anything else. This kind of working schedule will be okay with young people at first, but you will completely burn out after 2-3 years. That’s crazy to work like that, you guys are risking your life for money. With such long hours working schedule, the money they pay is not worth at all. You guys are all underpaid.

Whats the issue with just logging off earlier? Why do u see a need to stay on till midnight instead of 7pm?

Then thats their problem for setting unrealistic timelines. They only do this to u because u allow them

FDD as well, you need to make the pitch to move to different clients/ industries
if your utilization is 20-40% higher, you definitely need to be saying "no" more often to work. It's hard to say no, but need to learn to prioritize your own needs first, if just by a little.
Which firm are you at and which office?
If I told you I’d out myself, because I’m the only SA in this office with this kind of utilization haha

Does FDD pay so great that it's worth burning the candle at both ends like this? I'm in advisory, I'm making way more than I did in audit, and I never work over 45 hours
Correct. Probably going to ding the “prestige” on the resume by leaving but we’re accountants so that’s not something I’m really concerned about haha
Appreciate all the thoughtful responses, it’s pretty reassuring to hear how this isn’t normal
I don’t work more than 45 even if there’s work to do. You want more than that then pay me more. If I get more work than that I tell my managers I’m over booked and to find someone else. I understand you can’t always do this and sometimes you just gotta work late but… do everything you can to minimize
Kind of echo what SA1 said. I’m now a SM with two kids. The lifestyle is really a problem. I also feel like it’s gotten worse in part because our pay just hasn’t kept up. If you have an opportunity to improve WLB I would take it.
Take an audit job at Crowe and average 46 hours a week over the entire year
Those hours are great but I’d commit war crimes against audit
