Just accepted a job this week for post clerkship. Won’t start until October though. And the letter says my employment is contingent on a conflicts and BG check. Given the number of months between the offer and my actual start date, when will the firm confirm I’ve passed conflicts and confirm my employment so I can start house hunting?

Has your company stated anything about training in-person employees to better work with and include remote team members as your company goes back to having some employees in office? Mine says they will but I’ll still a little worried.

Been with company for 2.5 years in a SFA role, and they just let me hire an associate financial analyst reporting into me. My manager never mentioned anything in regards to a promotion, but when I asked, I was told that there will be an evaluation period before any promotion is given. Has anyone else had this before, where you are managing someone but they don’t give you a promotion? Sounds bizarre to me that they allow me to hire someone but then are hesitant to promote.

I’m a second year associate and last night I was online until 2:30 AM waiting for one specialists comment to a purchase agreement. I had added all comments during the day from everyone else, and the midlevel and senior were online as well, but it seemed very strange to ask me to stay up just to add three sentences to a purchase agreement. Let’s talk speed reading. I’m a slow reader and listened to a podcast recently on speed reading. I’m intrigued. Who here speed reads? How did you learn those skills, and what types of documents do you speed read in practice? I do mostly litigation and am thinking that speed reading would help with research but maybe not things like doc review where you need to review for both responsiveness and privilege.

My husband and I are thinking about taking a 6 month career break to travel. Career suicide or worth the risk? For context, I’m a 4th year big law associate (30 years old and no kids).

I’m a true night-owl that begins thinking clearly about 5 PM. I often send projects out after midnight. Early morning emails and calls are an adventure. Has anyone else had to work through this issue? Fight it or embrace it?
